Scores for selection for the Senior Welsh Team and Senior Welsh Academy in 2018

As the indoor season is now over and we are all venturing outdoors, we thought it would be helpful to set out our expectations for the Senior Welsh team and the Senior Welsh Academy for the forthcoming outdoor season.

As in previous years, we are planning on sending a Welsh team to both the Senior Euronations competition (details have yet to be announced) and the British Target Championships at Lilleshall in August.

We are also planning on reconvening the Senior Welsh Academy (Senior Squad) in October for training and coaching throughout the 2018/2019 indoor season.

Application forms for archers who wish to be part of the Senior Welsh Team and/or the Senior Welsh Academy will be available at the appropriate time so if you are interested make sure that you regularly check the WAA website.

All scores will need to be from record status shoots where a qualified judge was present from any outdoor rounds from the 2018 outdoor season. Eligible rounds will be York, Hereford, WAA 1440 and 720 70m and 50m.

If you submit scores from competitions which have taken place outside of the UK, any application will need to be accompanied by a copy of the results sheet, stating where and when the competition took place and you will need to provide details of the status of the competition and provide details of the presence of a qualified judge.

The selection criteria for both the team and the academy will be as follows:

Welsh Team events - three tournament scores to be submitted.

Welsh Senior Academy – five tournament scores to be submitted.

Gents Recurve - Bowman scores or above (handicap of 36 or better)

Ladies Recurve - Bowman scores or above (handicap of 41 or better)

Gents Compound - Bowman scores or above (handicap of 23 or better)

Ladies Compound - Bowman scores or above (handicap of 29 or better)

Only archers who are members of WAA can apply to join the Welsh team or the Welsh Senior Academy.

Anyone who does not have the relevant scores at the appropriate time may still submit their scores which will be considered should there be any vacancies.

We will publish full details of the application process for both the Welsh Team and the Senior Academy at the appropriate times later in the year but we hope this gives you an idea of what we will be expecting from those wishing to represent Wales or take part in the Senior Welsh Academy for 2018/2019.
