The 5th Junior Commonwealth Games takes place later this year in Samoa and we are pleased to announce that Ryan Pinder of Radnor Foresters Archery Club and the Welsh Junior Archery Academy will be braving the 50 hour each way trip to do us proud and represent Wales.
Ryan’s success at the Archery GB selection shoot has seen him participate on the GB team at the recent Youth World Championships in Yankton, USA and will see him compete in the forthcoming Europa Cup second stage in Rome in July. Both of these will stand him in good stead to compete with the other juniors from all over the Commonwealth to compete in this year’s games.
As you can imagine, an opportunity like this does not come cheap but through the generosity of Radnor Foresters Archery Club and Powys Archery Association and with a little help from us here at WAA, Ryan has been able to raise the finances needed to give him this once in a lifetime opportunity and he would like to publicly record his thanks to everyone who continues to support him in his archery journey.
As far as we are aware, Ryan will be the first Welsh junior to participate in the Junior Commonwealth Games and we wish him every success. Enjoy the 50 hours trip Ryan – as I’m scared of flying – I’d rather you than me.
